Chestnut Walk

Good thing no one is afraid of heights

The Red Leaf River Inn is located just outside the town limits of Waynesville, NC. Far enough out that you will hear nothing but the sounds of trees, animals, and the stream, we are still less than a mile from downtown Waynesville and just minutes from the Smokey Mountain Expressway.  Two turns off the expressway will bring you to Chestnut Walk Drive, a private road marked by a 15 foot high archway.

Like much of the inn, the archway was once a sign of the care and detail put into the property but recent years of neglect were showing in peeling paint and overgrown vines.  So, Georgina and Victor spent an hour painting and clearing until the archway once again represented the beauty of the inn and the property.

A Red Roof for the Red Leaf

Victor lays out the new roofing
Innkeep Victor has been hard at work showing off his handyman skills.  He spent last weekend installing a brand new red roof on the inn with the help of a local roofer.

Putting on the finishing touches

We are leaving behind the old green and white color scheme for a more modern red and grey.  The roof is just the beginning - we've got some repairs to make to the siding and then a new coat of paint will finish off the exterior of the house.

Welcome to the Inn

Overlooking the pond and great lawn

The Red Leaf River Inn is located in Waynesville, NC, just 30 minutes outside of Asheville.  The five bedroom bed and breakfast was purchased in December of 2013 by two sisters, Georgina and Frances, along with their husbands, Victor and Mike.

The Red Leaf River Inn was built in the 1930's and has been sadly neglected in recent years. We are now working hard to restore both the grounds and the house to their former glory.  We plan to fully renovate the inn, including a new roof, a fresh coat of paint, and new flooring, ceiling tiles, and wall coverings in most areas of the house.  Each of the three guest rooms and two suites will have an updated ensuite bathroom and all new furnishings.

Hidden gardens and old flower beds are also being uncovered as years of ivy and weeds are stripped away.  Work is also being done to restore the half acre trout pond and two streams on the five acre property.
