Getting Clean

Prep for painting the Inn is underway.  Shutters have been pulled down, the house has been power washed, scrubbed, and power washed again. And we thought cleaning bathrooms was going to be the hard part!

The hard work will all be worth it as we start to change up the tired white and green color scheme.  A medium and dark grey will be used for the overall color and trim, respectively.
Even the kids get in on the fun!

Soco Falls

Waynesville is known as the Gateway to the Smokies. The sheer magnitude of these wonderful mountains means every day can be an adventure of new-to-us discoveries. Last weekend, for example, we made an impromptu stop with visiting friends at Joey’s Pancake House in nearby Maggie Valley for (what else?) pancakes. Browsing the postcards while waiting to pay our bill, we spotted a shot of a gorgeous waterfall. Curious and with the day open before us, we asked the hostess if she knew how to get to Soco Falls. “Hang on,” she said, “let me ask one of the girls. She knows where everything is around here.”

Oh, sure… Up the road a piece, about 3 miles… [Those are mountain miles, by the way.] …You’ll see a sign, but you’re not there yet…  Looks like parking by the guardrail, but keep going until you see the black fence. Can’t miss it!

We’re so glad we didn’t.

Happy 4th of July!

Happy 4th of July weekend from the Red Leaf River Inn!  We hope you are all celebrating safely with your family and friends.  We took a break from renovations to celebrate, so here are some pictures from the Independence Day celebration at nearby Lake Junaluska.

Looking out over Lake Junaluska - just watch out for the ducks, geese, and swans!

Sunset over the mountains, which means it is almost time for fireworks!
